Founded in 1987 by Dr Jerry Purcell, Momentum Data Systems quickly became known for its revolutionary QEDesign filter design package, which even today ranks as one of the most powerful but easy to use filter design tools. Merging with Zola Technologies in 1994, MDS now unites a highly talented team of engineers with specialist expertise in filtering, consumer AV Receiver systems, multi-media, and complex DSP system design for industrial and scientific applications to offer a full range of products including complete custom systems, DSP tools, reference designs, and training services. Momentum’s extensive experience in both hardware and software DSP applications has resulted in partnerships with leading providers of DSP products in the world.

Projects

Momentum sustains close partnerships with Analog Devices for BlackFin DSP, Texas Instruments for digital audio, and with NXP Semiconductors TriMedia/Nexperia group for digital video processing. MDS has developed key parts of the software and hardware development tools for these important components. These close working partnerships, allied with experience developing our own product ranges in digital audio and video, allows MDS to undertake custom design projects from conception through proof of concept to volume production.

Working with MDS

A successful project starts with a complete specification that describes all functional, electrical, and user interface requirements. In some cases customers may wish to use MDS' systems engineering capability to help develop this specification and perform initial design trade-off analysis. Once the overall specification is complete a detailed hardware (if applicable) and software (if applicable) specification is developed. Once all of the specifications are agreed upon design work starts.

During the course of development there are reviews at agreed upon milestones, and for hardware projects a final review prior to release of the design for PCB layout and fab. MDS engineers then test the hardware and perform the needed software integration, after which the product is signed off on for production.

Flexibility

Every customer is unique and has differing needs for assistance. In addition to complete product design services, MDS offers designs for license for manufacture by your own vendors.
