Hardware Evaluation and Development/Reference Platform Kit for Maxim MG3500 H.264 HD encoder/decoder

The MG3500 EVP (EValuation Platform) offers a full set of hardware features for application developers needing High
Definition (720p/1080i 50/60 Hz) H264 encoding or decoding. Based on Maxim ’s en-ViE MG3500 codec device, the EVP offers a platform with just about every imaginable interface an application will require. For the few cases where different hardware is needed, expansion connectors provide access to virtually all of the MG3500’s rich connectivity options.

The MG3500 supports H264 encoding or decoding at High, Main, and Baseline profiles up to level 4.1, and supports multiple SD streams. With its integrated ARM core and video peripherals for scaling and overlay, the MG3500 can act as a true system on a chip for a wide range of low-cost applications.

The EVP2 can also be used to develop software for the MG2580, which is a subset of the MG3500 in terms of features and capabilities.

The kit includes the board with demonstration Lua scripts in flash memory, cables, and power supply.

MG3500 EVP Board

A full-featured platform supporting a wide range of applications development

The EVP kits include a Hardware Reference package (available via download). To speed time-to-market for your own custom designs, the Hardware Reference package includes a complete Design Files Database which includes full design information, including schematic source (OrCad 10.3), Gerbers, BOM, layout (PADS), and assembly files.

Development tools:

The Maxim MG3500EVP Software Development Kit (SDK) is required, and must be purchased separately. Note that the SDK is available separately in case more than one EVP is ordered, but the SDK must be purchased along with the hardware. The SDK supports H.264 encode and decode (up to 1080i 50/60Hz), MPEG 2 decode, and JPEG encode and decode.

The built-in serial port boot option on the ARM can be used to initialize the flash. A standard ARM JTAG port is also available.

Ordering information:

Note that the availability of a particular hardware feature in the platform does not mean that software for a specific use is included with the kit. Please contact MDS or your distributor with your detailed requirements. Also note that the Maxim MG3500EVP SDK is required, and must be purchased separately.

Your local Maxim sales office or Maxim IC distributor can provide complete information on the MG3500 chip.
