The HXBAR-88 is intended for OEMs that need to offer HDMI switching but do not wish to take on the long and expensive development process to create a HDMI matrix switch that works reliably when faced with the real world scenarios of typical consumer and commercial applications.

The HXBAR-88 offers a powerful set of features that can be enhanced by OEMs to offer unique products targeted at different market segments. The unit can route HDMI that conforms to the HDMI 1.4a specifications for mandatory 3D formats, 12 bit/component deep color, xvYCC color, at 1080p 60 Hz, and PCM, Dolby, and DTS standard and HD (HBR) audio.

The board also automatically performs intelligent EDID capability mapping between sinks and sources and offers extensive status reporting to the host as well as the ability to override default actions.

Extensive effort has gone into ensuring that HDCP-related disruptions to the video are minimized when switching sources (HDCP is the encryption system used on many HDMI sources, it is 'fragile' and the cause of most HDMI-related failures that customers experience).

An onboard audio router allows stereo PCM and standard Dolby or DTS formats to be routed independently of the video path. Expansion connectors allow external audio I/O to be accommodated; for example this can be used to accommodate DVI sources. External audio (stereo PCM or standard Dolby/DTS) can replace the default output, allowing for applications needing complex audio routing that can be found in commercial installations.

A built-in OSD capability that can provide unique (text/icon) overlays to each output allows for user feedback that is typically needed in consumer (home) applications.
