MDS offers three models of HDMI switcher/repeaters that have typical application in audio systems found in consumer applications. Common features of the three include:
The HSR-5 is a 4 input, single output HDMI/HDCP repeater/switch. In OEM volumes it costs less than $100, making it ideal for cost sensitive designs. It also provides a basic ASCII text, boxes, and icon OSD (On Screen Display) capability to provide visual feedback for things like input selection or a volume bar. The HSR-7 offers the same features as the HSR-5 but supports 7 inputs.
The HSR-8-3D offers 8 inputs, with the ability to expand to 12 inputs, with dual outputs (i.e. the selected input can be sent to two display devices simultaneously). Priority can be assigned for each output to support a specific audio or video format instead of picking the lowest common format. Devices with multiple outputs are considerably more complex than their analog video counterparts as the encryption scheme used on HDMI, called HDCP, is not designed to support multiple displays.
MDS has spent considerable effort to make sure the repeater products function well when faced with real-world HDMI devices that may not operate as well as other devices. MDS' many years of expertise with HDMI/HDCP can be applied to custom product design as well as design licenses for where a standard product is not applicable.
