Dual TI DA710 DSP-based digital audio decoding module for up to 7.3 channel surround sound applications


MDS DAE-77 is a module with SPDIF input and I2S input and output for AV Receiver applications that need support for the Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio formats used on BluRay discs and carried over HDMI. One DSP is dedicated for compressed audio decode and the other for post processing. This provides for considerable flexibility for the post processing.

The hardware includes ASRC (Asynchronous Sample Rate Converter) between the two DSPs. This serves two key purposes: It can reduce the sample rate from 192 kHz from the decoder output to the 48 kHz typically used for post processing without using any DSP resources, and it allows the output clocking to be done from a low jitter crystal oscillator, which removes the jitter found in HDMI and SPDIF sources that can degrade audio performance of high quality audio designs.

The DAE-7D offers 7.3 output as a standard configuration, as well as a 2.0 mixdown output.
